Pizza Party!

July 1, 2014 | By Chris Fleck

There is no denying the satisfaction you get from a good slice of pizza— try these pies when hunger gets the best of you.

Whether you’re a kid or an adult, it literally makes your mouth water. Its melted, cheesy-gooey, warm-crusted goodness is hard to pass up—no matter the time of day. It comes in various styles, shapes and sizes, but when all is said and done, it’s sure to hit the spot. We’re talking about pizza, and in Waikiki, you have options.

Harbor Pub

Harbor Pub

Try to envision the iconic sitcom “Cheers” bar meets Hawai‘i. The theme at Harbor Pub is cool and casual and has been since they opened nearly 25 years ago. Located adjacent from the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, Harbor Pub attracts many of Waikiki’s out-of-town guests, as well as the staple regulars who work in the area or who are hopping on or off their boats.

Seeking a style of food that would be enticing regardless the time of day, owner Michael Coyle decided from the start that pizza was the way to go. All about freshness, Harbor Pub pizza stands out in the traditional sense. Some of their classic favorites are the Pepperoni and Cheese, Marghertia and Basil, Tomato and Garlic and Harbor Supreme with “the works.” Nothing goes better with a cheesy slice of pizza then one of Harbor Pub’s beer selections.

“Pizza and beer go hand-in-hand, like ham and eggs,” Coyle says. “We are who we are here, and we’re not going to pretend to be anything else, and saying that, we strive for excellence.”

Rivals

Slice of Waikiki at Rivals Sports Bar & Lounge

Fan of pizza? Fan of sports? Rivals Sports Bar & Lounge is your spot. Fairly new to the Waikiki pizza scene, Slice of Waikiki at Rivals Sports Bar & Lounge is building momentum by the pie (or slice, depending on your appetite). It’s quite extraordinary: the quality, taste and now, quantity of pizza being served out of their tiny kitchen, which also serves as a sidewalk take-out window. For the lover of a hearty, meaty slice, the Death by Meat choice delivers everything you need. For those looking for something lighter, the Green Monster combines spinach, tomato, garlic and mushroom into a cheesy, chewy delight.

“There’s just something about garlic baking on a pizza that is the best thing ever,” says Rivals manager Steve Ho.

For the sports fanatic, Rivals offers customers the opportunity to purchase any of its varied sports memorabilia, including the dozens of autographed photos that decorate the walls.

Round Table Pizza

Round Table Pizza

A mainland favorite, Round Table Pizza has found a fitting and is expanding its home in Hawai‘i, particularly in Waikiki. Located at the OHANA Waikiki East hotel, Hilton Hawaiian Village and at Giovanni Pastrami at Waikiki Beach Walk, Round Table Pizza delivers within the Waikiki district until 1 a.m. That includes each and every hotel. Round Table is an easy place to dine with children and is another premier spot to watch any—and I mean any—major sport event, particularly NFL, NCAA, NBA games and UFC fights.

“I would have to say Round Table Pizza is like your living room with a bar in it,” says restaurant manager Allison Houston. “It’s a comfortable atmosphere; the people who work here are really down to earth and fun. We enjoy being here.”

As for the pizza, it’s a can’t-miss, especially the King Arthur Supreme or Gourmet Veggie. If one of their specialty pizzas isn’t quite what you’re looking for, they have half a dozen different sauce choices and a plethora of toppings to help you create a signature pizza.

“What makes our pizza special is the freshness. Nothing is frozen. Our dough is rolled fresh every day. [You] always get a pizza with freshly sliced meats and veggies,” Houston adds.
