Years working in Waikiki: 32 years in Waikiki, 28 years at Halekulani

Three words that describe Waikiki: Energetic, diverse, picturesque

Favorite insider eating experience:

There is no doubt from all of the ever-changing culinary venues that Halekulani continues to exceed expectations in offering the most outstanding Sunday brunch experience, not only in Waikiki, but in all of Hawai‘i! For special occasions La Mer, the only five-star and five-diamond restaurant in Hawai‘i, is truly amazing. That being said … the best scones I’ve ever eaten are from Diamond Head Market located at the base of Diamond Head Crater on Monsarrat Avenue. They have an excellent selection of take-out items from pasta salads to pumpkin crunch. Grab a few goodies and go to the lookout at Diamond Head to watch the windsurfers.

Favorite attraction/thing to do in Waikiki:

One of my favorite activities is to hike Diamond Head with my family. The Outrigger canoe rides are a fun family activity too! We also have several cultural events that are great for locals and visitors alike with exceptional food and entertainment, like all the ho‘olaule‘a (street parties), Spam Jam, Pan Pacific Festival, Aloha Festivals and parades!

What do you love best about your job?

I love the interaction with the guests. It feels great when they return to let you know they had a great experience and that we helped them create memories that will last a lifetime.

Any memorable stories as a concierge that you want to share?

Going to work every day, you never know what will happen, but working with such a talented team, I can confidently say that no matter what the request or inquiry we will be, we are able to give you an answer, some options or grant the greatest of wishes!
