As one of the Waikiki’s longest-running restaurants (open since 1964), Hau Tree Lanai at The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel has much to boast from its extensive Continental menu.

A beach-front view under the famous hau tree is the perfect place for a sunrise breakfast featuring popular eggs benedict dishes.

The Classic Eggs Benedict ($16) houses turkey, Canadian bacon, poached eggs on a grilled English muffin and house-made Hollandaise sauce.

“It takes a bit of effort,” says maître de cuisine Jay Waldhoff. “The Hollandaise sauce needs to be whipped up for a long time to get that consistency.”

That extra bit of effort really sets each benedict concoction apart from other establishments.

Also on the benedict menu are a Salmon Benedict Florentine made with seared fresh salmon, sautéed spinach, sweet onions and a dill Hollandaise sauce (also made in-house).

Fresh fish specials grace Hau Tree Lanai’s dinner menu and patrons can enjoy a meal with the wonderful sounds of Waikiki Beach in the background.

Hau Tree Lanai is open daily for breakfast (7-11 a.m.), lunch (11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday 12-2 p.m.) and dinner (5:30-9 p.m.).
