Eggs: Spinach, bacon and cheese omelette

A Longtime Favorite Expands

What is it about eating breakfast in the middle of the day (or for dinner) that we find so appealing? Is it that we’re “breaking the rules,” so to speak? Or, maybe it’s the idea of leisurely mornings that force us to have our morning repast in the afternoon. Whatever the reason, Eggs ‘N Things’ all day breakfast is definitely a big draw.

Drawing long lines of people, that is. Every day, lines form outside both the Saratoga Road and the new Waikiki Beach Eggspress locations. The friendly staff at Eggs ‘N Things have been at this a while (the restaurant opened as a neighborhood coffee shop in 1974), so they’ve got the whole “quick service, quality food” thing down to a science.

The family friendly eatery is known for its pancakes, omelets and crepes. Many claim these are the best pancakes on the island—they’re so popular that it sells packages of pancake mix for people to take home with them. It even offers a service to mail a batch of the mixes for you so that you don’t need to worry about packing them as souvenirs.

Popular choices include the pancakes topped with strawberries, whipped cream with nuts; or flavors of the islands—macadamia nut pancakes and pineapple pancakes.

Omelets are generous, three eggs with your choice of ingredients. Other breakfast favorites include Eggs Benedict, sweet bread French toast and crispy-golden waffles; as well as Hawai‘i favorites such as Portuguese sausage and loco moco.

Thanks in part to a cult following locally, breakfast devotees now have a second Eggs ‘N Things outpost, Waikiki Beach Eggspress, located at the Waikiki Beach Circle Hotel. This second location is, as its name suggests, a quicker-service spot that is more suited for those who want to take their food to go (limited seating is available).

Not in the mood for breakfast at 6 p.m.? Don’t fret, the Saratoga Road location also features a dinner menu offering up chicken-fried steak, fresh ahi steak and more.

But no doubt it’ll be those fluffy pancakes, delicate crepes or a hearty loco moco that lures you in. Chances are, you’ll be back, again and again, for your breakfast fix—no matter what time it is.
