Pure Genius

More than just sake, the low-key lounge has an innovative menu to boot!

Tucked away on Lewers Street, an atypical food pairing awaits: Japanese-inspired fare and traditional sake for the tasting. Though Genius Lounge Sake Bar & Grill is off the main stretch of Waikiki, a quick detour toward this hidden gem is well worth it. Have a seat by the bar or snag a table in the intimate dining room area. If you’re lucky, perhaps you’ll score a space on their balcony, which is a cozy respite from the hustle and the bustle of the streets below. There’s a slew of starters to choose from such as edamame, poke and chilled tofu. But the more adventurous may be more partial to trying the spicy potato cake, sauteed foie gras or simmered short rib. Genius also has a unique rice bowl and pasta selection (try the Pasta Tarako), as well as a tasty array of main dishes, from dried squid tempura and deep fried garlic to salmon steak and citrus-pepper chicken.
