Rainbow Connection

Revel in drive-in nostalgia at this Kapahulu mainstay. Since 1961, Rainbow Drive-In has always had the local diner in mind. From barbecue chicken and teriyaki steak to mahi mahi with tartar sauce, the plate-lunch haven serves up some of the best meals in town. Each entrée comes with two scoops of rice and a scoop of either mac salad or cole slaw. Certain dishes including roast pork with gravy, beef stew and chopped steak with veggies are offered on certain days. And if you happen to be a morning person, the restaurant offers its breakfast menu between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. Choose from items like sweet bread French toast, corned beef hash and more. For those partial to sandwiches and burgers, the deviled sandwich and the two-patty Rainbow Royal are worth a try. As for getting your money’s worth? Though the prices have gone up since the ’60s, Rainbow Drive-In is giving you the best bang for your buck.
