Tokyo Sophisticate

With its sleek interiors and contemporary take on Japanese cuisine, KAIWA is frequented by both tourists and foodies alike. Executive chef Hideaki Kishishita’s take on traditional Asian fare is properly executed from conception to presentation. Starters include Japanese eggplant and enoki mushrooms wrapped in thin strips of kurobuta pork; and grilled live baby abalone. Teppan entrees range from Atlantic salmon with tomato gelee to Wagyu garlic steak. KAIWA also has stellar donburi (rice bowl) and lunch sets, which won’t break the bank. Each set lunch comes with salad, rice, miso soup and dessert. We love the restaurant’s take on the loco moco—a generous serving of beef-topped rice, tomatoes, asparagus and egg. In addition, sushi lovers will appreciate KAIWA’s extensive list of sushi offerings, and signature rolls such as the Aburi Hamachi Roll are worth trying.
