Mele Kalikimaka and Hau‘oli Makahiki Hou, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

There are Christmas trees galore, gingerbread houses and villages, beautiful displays for the Christmas and New Year strollers. The hotel, shopping and restaurant establishments are all aglitter with decorations.

The Pearl Harbor Memorial Anniversary Parade on Friday, Dec. 7 honors the remaining Pearl Harbor survivors and remembers the contribution of our service men and woman on that “Day of Infamy.” The event will also recognize the sacrifices of our current military forces and their families.

The Honolulu Marathon, Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl and the NFL Pro Bowl and the associated events provide a great selection of sports and activities. The Honolulu Marathon is not just the race but a series of activities, beginning with the Honolulu Marathon Expo at the Hawai‘i Convention Center from Wednesday, Dec. 5 to Saturday, a concert featuring Hawaiian Entertainment at the Waikiki Shell on Dec. 8, and of course, the race itself on Sunday, Dec. 9. There is a special Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl, Sunset on the Beach—a free movie event at Waikiki Beach on Dec. 20. The 2013 NFL Pro Bowl takes place on Jan. 27, 2013 and also has its own set of related events—the most notable being the Pro Bowl Block Party in Waikiki on Jan. 26.

On New Year’s Eve/Day, Waikiki is one big celebration venue. Here, the New Year will be crowned by a stunning fireworks display at the stroke of midnight directly off shore from Waikiki, visible from all Waikiki beaches.

Aloha and mahalo for making 2012 a wonderful year in Waikiki, and from all of us, we wish you a healthy and prosperous 2013.
