SUP surfing began on the shores of Waikiki during the 1950s as a hybrid novelty of outrigger canoe paddling and surfing.

Here are great places to get your feet wet in Waikiki.

Go Bananas Watersports

This company’s been one of the island’s go-to places for kayaks and gear rental, so it’s no surprise that it offers SUP board, paddles and life jackets for rental as well.

In addition to its popular surf lessons, this school, founded by professional surfer Ty Gurney, offers one-hour and two-hour SUP classes as well as half-day and full-day SUP safaris.
