Modex Designs launched its first Hawai‘i retail shop in May 2012, just in time for the summer surf season. Now, as surfers gear up for the arrival of primo winter waves, Modex Designs is ready to supply watermen and women with all the gear they need. In addition to its own line of high-performance, Pipeline-style boards (which start at $400), Modex also carries a wide selection of short and longboards, retro fish-style boards (starting at $498) and stand-up paddleboards (starting at $779) from in-house lines Cream, Fresh and Green Revolution.

“Green Revolution is all made with recycled materials, which are good for the ocean and environment,” says Modex Designs owner Patty Muroki, noting the Waikiki store also has surf accessories like leashes, fins, deck pads and car straps. Don’t know which board suits you? No worries—Modex’s knowledgeable staff is always on-hand to offer advice and help customers find their perfect board. As an added bonus, all Modex brand surfboard purchases come with a free leash, deck pad, fins and T-shirt, while all SUPs come with a free travel SUP bag, leash, deck pad, fins and carbon-fiber paddle. “These are crazy packages!” Muroki says. “No one has this but us.” Modex Designs is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday.
