Snug as an AirBuggy

It may be surprising to learn that the concept for AirBuggy— a highly coveted stroller for in-the-know parents—originated right here in the Aloha State. Mieko Iida, CEO of GMP International, saw the American Baby Jogger on the streets of Hawai‘i, and started importing them to Japan. After making several tweaks for Japanese tastes and sensibilities, Iida then launched AirBuggy in 2000. Since then, it’s flourished to become an international phenomenon, known for its safety features and compact, lightweight design. Now, AirBuggy boasts a new boutique at Waikiki Beach Walk—the brand’s first store in the U.S. In addition to a selection of these sleek strollers and accessories, shoppers can also browse through an array of things for the keiki (children) including Wimni organic cotton baby and kids’ shirts (printed in Hawai‘i), First Dress baby apparel, Makie organic baby clothing and Mini Squids Sunglasses—perfect for your wee one’s little peepers.
