Oh, Okonomiyaki!

July 5, 2013 | By Waikiki Magazine Team

The signature dish at Chibo Restaurant is okonomiyaki—a Japanese-style “pancake” made with flour, egg, cabbage and mountain yam that is filled and topped with different ingredients—that is cooked on an iron griddle, teppanyaki-style. The finishing touches to the pancake are a special okonomiyaki plum sauce, a mayonnaise sauce, seaweed powder and dried bonito flakes. Sit by the cooking area, and watch the chefs prepare the okonomiyaki right in front of you. The popular “Chibo” okonomiyaki features sirloin, prawns, squid and scallops. The menu also features yakisoba and other teppanyaki dishes, with a good selection of seafood choices (abalone, shrimp, scallops, squid, octopus, fish and lobster tail) in addition to beef, chicken and vegetable options.
