Ruth’s Chris delivers a steakhouse with island flair

Sometimes you just want a traditional American steakhouse, even in paradise.

At Ruth’s Chris, you’ll find not only the best U.S.D.A. prime steak, but also an exceptional menu of signature steaks and chops, seafood, salads, chicken, lamb, pork and fresh catch of the day. Complement your meal with tasty New Orleans-inspired appetizers, as well as signature side dishes served family-style, such as Creamed Spinach, Fresh Asparagus with Hollandaise, Potatoes Au Gratin and Lyonnaise. The main attraction is the steaks, of course, and there’s an award-winning wine list to make that perfect pairing.

“The way we prepare everything is pretty simple and straightforward,” says executive chef Leighton Miyakawa. “Our steaks come from the Midwest. It has about 28 days age in the meat when we bring it here. And the prime meat we bring in, only two percent of all meat that is raised is prime, so it’s very hard to get.”

Among the popular menu items is the T-Bone ($58), which is a full-flavored 24-ounce classic cut of U.S.D.A. Prime seasoned with sea salt and black pepper, broiled to your liking and topped with butter and chopped parsley.

“It has a filet and strip loin, so you have the tenderness of filet on one side and the crunchiness of strip loin,” says Miyakawa, who has been with Ruth’s Chris Waikiki since it opened in 2007. “It’s a very flavorful meat.”

A Ruth’s favorite is the Filet ($47) featuring 11 ounces of the most tender cut of corn-fed Midwestern beef, also seasoned with sea salt and black pepper, broiled to your liking and topped with butter and chopped parsley.

For dessert, try the Berries and Cream with fresh strawberries, blueberries and blackberries stacked above a layer of sweet cream.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House was founded in 1965 in New Orleans, and has since expanded to more than 120 restaurants around the world.

The Waikiki Beach Walk location (226 Lewers St., second floor) offers the same quality of food and service that you would expect at a fine-dining restaurant, but has a more modern-type tropical atmosphere that can play to a casual or formal evening, as well as family-friendly (there’s a kids menu available) or romantic.

There also is a large bar area, and happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. (at the bar only) with drink and select appetizer specials.

Or enjoy the Sizzlin’ Prime Time Menu available from 5 to 6 p.m. For $45.95, choose a starter (Caesar Salad, Steak House Salad or Soup of the Day), one entree (8-ounce Petite Filet, Stuffed Chicken Breast, Barbecued Shrimp or Chef’s Fresh Island Fish selection), one side (Mashed Potatoes, Creamed Spinach, Broccoli, Sauteed Mushrooms or Local Broiled Tomatoes) and one dessert (Ice Cream, Sorbet or Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce).

Or for $55.95, the entree selections are 11-ounce Filet with Grilled Shrimp, Veal Chop, Ribeye (16-ounce) or Lobster Tail.

Valet parking is available in the Embassy Suites (enter from Beach Walk Street). Or order your fine-dining meal to go and savor it in the comfort of your hotel room.
