Dynamic Duo
Designers Lambertson and Truex lend their expertise
In its three short years, The Leather Collection from Tiffany & Co. has grown by leaps and bounds. The well-edited collection, designed by the team of Richard Lambertson and John Truex, spans the range from the instant-classic TRT: Tiffany Reversible Tote, to the evening pieces such as the Sabrina clutch. As the collection has evolved, fans have seen the addition of exotic leathers such as ostrich and crocodile as well as color blocking, vibrant hues and eye-catching animal and zigzag prints.
The dynamic design duo made their way back to Hawai‘i recently, to unveil the newest collection. “Hawai‘i is a very good market for us,” says Truex.
“Our aesthetic is a perfect marriage with Tiffany & Co.,” he adds, pointing out that he and Lambert-son have a hand in every detail of their leather goods: the hardware, leather selection and color.
“The bags have become more structured,” Lambert-son points out, noting an evolution he’s seen in the collection and in handbags in general.
The spring collection will showcase new colors and silhouettes. For travel, they suggest the canvas Seasider tote for the beach or the Lindy tote as a carryall. Gentlemen will like the Blake tote that features leather handles or canvas shoulder straps (one tonal to match the bag, the other with complementing stripes).
When they’re not showing off the leather collection, the designers like to tuck into Keo’s Thai Cuisine to indulge in the Evil Jungle Prince—an instant classic of a different sort.
