When describing what the audience can expect at Sharkey’s Comedy Club, headlining comedian Bo Irvine seems also to sum up what everybody is looking for on a vacation: “They will have fun, they will forget their problems.

Sharkey’s Comedy Club has been attracting locals and visitors alike since opening its doors in 2004, with Irvine as the club’s longtime headliner. His show, High & Right Comedy Night takes place at 8 p.m. (seating starts at 7:30 p.m.) Tuesday and Saturday in the Warriors Lounge at the Hale Koa Hotel.

Irvine was working as a firefighter when his friends encouraged him to try comedy. Now, after doing stand-up comedy for more than 20 years, Irvine has worked with well-known comedians including Howie Mandel and George Lopez and has appeared in national television programs that include Comedy on the Road and Comedy Club Network.

Irvine finds inspiration for his routine in everything from current events to day-to-day life.

If you want to stop by Sharkey’s more than once— and many people do—there will be new laughs waiting for you. Irvine regularly changes his routine based on what is going on in the world or what is happening in the crowd. Plus, he is a pro at ad-libbing and says that he spends about 30 minutes of his show coming up with new content on the spot.

And if you need proof that Irvine can make just about anything funny, here it is: When he’s not on stage at Sharkey’s, he is giving inspirational talks or speaking about risk management—all with a humorous slant.

“There is humor in everything, and it is my job to find it,” Irvine says.
