Hair Apparent

Get beach-worthy tresses no matter where you are.

Visitors to Hawai‘i are drawn by the mystery, beauty and power of the ocean. But nothing prepares them for the magical effect of salt water in their hair. The briny mist has a way of beautifully texturizing hair and exaggerating any natural waves, making it easy to achieve the sexy, tousled, just-got-out-of-bed look, with no effort at all. And, the best part, it’s free. Alas, most of us can’t jump in the sea whenever we want to, but various salt sprays and dry shampoos can help us get volume and texture that mimics nature’s handiwork. To use salt and texturizing sprays, simply cup damp hair in your hands, and scrunch up to your roots. You can try making your own salt spray with about a cup of water and a few teaspoons of salt. You can also work dry shampoo into your roots, or for more control, create loose waves with a large-barreled curling iron, shake loose and set with holding spray.
