MAC the Night (and Day)

Satisfy your comfort-food craving around the clock!

Walking into the restaurant during the day was a different experience for us; however, the light of day didn’t diminish any of its luster. The clubby booths and retro-modern interiors contrasted nicely with the lush garden views from the dining room. On the opposite wall, televisions were tuned to various sporting events.

For a breakfast lover like me, being able to eat a “morning” meal all day, every day, is a big plus.

When the restaurant is serving up dishes like the smoked salmon Benedict with break-fast potatoes, it further impresses. The smoked salmon and spinach atop perfectly toasted English muffins with poached eggs and smothered with hollandaise—it was an ideal medley of flavors. Other breakfast offerings include the aforementioned pancakes, MAC Muffins and an island favorite—kalbi served with rice and two eggs.

One thing to note about MAC 24/7 is portions are quite generous. That being said, the Pacific Lump Crab Cakes, served with pineapple, chili sauce and red pepper aioli, is a great option for light eaters.

Other standouts include the Sweet & Smoky Pulled Kalua Pork Sandwich; white Cheddar mac and cheese with green peas; and meatloaf made from Kulana Farms grass-fed beef from the Big Island.

MAC 24/7 aims to offer diners American cuisine, but manages to successfully pull influences from around the globe as well. Find those flavors in such dishes as the adobo chicken, eggplant-spinach-vegetable lasagna and the MAC Aloha—a massive combination of huli-huli style chicken, kalbi short ribs and seared ‘ahi (yellowfin tuna), served up with fried rice and wakame salad.

To end on a sweet note, try the waffle sundae or xangos—cheesecake and bananas wrapped in pastry, topped with ice cream and caramel sauce.

Is MAC 24/7 always open as its name implies? The restaurant claims that it only closes when it snows. So, judging from its locale in the heart of Waikiki, you’ll always have a place to satiate your appetite for a delicious and hearty meal.
