Aloha Festivals

September 15, 2012

Celebrate Hawaiian culture with a month filled with festivities. On September 6, witness the pomp of the Royal Court Investiture at Hilton Hawaiian Village, starting at 3 p.m. Here, the 2012 ali‘i (royalty) receive their royal symbols of rein. Later, at 5 p.m., the Aloha Festivals Opening Ceremony takes place at the Royal Grove at the Royal Hawaiian Center. On September 15, music fills the air during the Waikiki Ho‘olaule‘a (street party) on Kalakaua Avenue between Lewers Street and Kapahulu Avenue. Celebrating its 60th year, revelers can look forward to multiple stages of entertainment, food, lei vendors and Hawaiian crafters. The beauty of the Aloha Festivals Floral Parade steps off at 9 a.m. and makes its way down Kalakaua Avenue, ending at Kapi‘olani Park. Marching Bands, pa‘u riders, hula halau and a myriad of floats bedecked in fragrant blooms make this a not-to-be-missed parade. Various locations.
